A close friend once said that improvisation is the process of uncovering a language—as though it were the gradual excavation of artefacts, lifted into view piece by piece, so that an underlying whole may emerge.
Through the lens of Melpomene, wherein this language is simultaneously fueled by an inquiry into electro-acoustic sounds, and an intimate friendship, where a common intuition remains invisible yet palpable, the language of this album is about the spirit through which things are uncovered, rather than the things themselves.
Fragments that emerge conflict and compete, bound only by the momentum of curiosity that compels their revelation, from one to the next. Melpomene reflects an underlying naivety, meant here in the best possible sense—a child-like enrapture and trust.
